FDA delivers a first-in-class

Two FDA items made today’s cut. The headline-grabber is the agency’s approval of Lipfendra (enlicitide) — described in the FDA Newsroom press release as the first oral PCSK9 inhibitor — for adults with hypercholesterolemia, including HeFH. Approval went to Merck Sharp & Dohme; the candidate’s drug label adds a once-daily oral option to the PCSK9 class that has historically required injectable administration. M&A: Jasper-Kira, Lilly-AtaiBeckley

The Jasper-Kira merger that was telegraphed in late June closed this week as an all-stock combination with a concurrent $132M private placement of non-voting convertible preferred stock. Patent litigation: Arbutus vs Sanofi

PR Newswire’s FDA-approval feed produced 23 candidates but only the Camurus NDA resubmission for CAM2029 survived filtering — the rest were medical-device releases (BRIJ-SEAL, DuraBloc, wearable tech) that don’t fit the biopharma collection.
